Once mentally prepared for the car buying experience, the person has a large decision to make: do they buy used or new car? Most of the time this decision will be based on past experiences. If the person has only ever had one used vehicle, and it was purchased purely on the basis of cost, then they may have formed the opinion that if they can now afford a new auto that is what they should buy. People of this mindset usually subscribe to the old adage: "Why should I get someone else's problem". While there is a certain credibility to this saying, there arc many other more pertinent facts that should be considered. Here are just a few reasons why purchasing pre-owned can be a good alternative to buying new.
For most people, the decision to buy a car is usually precipitated by several factors.
First, and most commonly is the vehicle they are presently using is on its last legs and visits to the repair shop are becoming more and more frequent.
Second they may have had the auto for a long time and just feel like getting something different.
Third, a child in the family may have reached driving age and perhaps needs a vehicle of their own.
Last, the vehicle they presently own is not able to handle some newfound need. For example, you own a Honda Civic and have just purchased a boat, then discovered that the Honda does not have the capability to tow it.
Whatever the reasons, the decision was made to retire their present vehicle and move into a new/different one. Depending on the responsible party's past experiences in buying vehicles, this may be something to look forward to, but more often than not, it becomes something to dread. Many people liken purchasing a vehicle to going to the dentist; it has to be done, but it makes them very nervous and full of anxiety. |
